Genki Sudo

Genki Sudo is a recently retired mixed martial artist and a kickboxer from Japan. He's fought on K-1 HERO'S, UFC, and Pancrase. But I'm not going to talk about his Fighting career. To me the sport is boring. You may not know who's going to win but you pretty much know the outcome the whole time, and it's not even visually pleasing. Genki Sudo is a musician and a dancer. This music video of his is incredible. Not just Genki Sudo, but his whole group of dancers move like some kind of alien force, and in unison. It's a pretty good song too.

Cool new flip phone

This phone has to be one of the coolest phones I've ever seen. This concept is getting allot of attention which means it's only a matter of time before it's made for production. Kristian Ulrich created this brilliant phone with a custom Android interface and the most unique functionality ever. It's only draw back from the market is the battery for running three displays simultaneously for an extended period of time, does not yet exist. Rather then explain the phone and how it works, heres an inspiring video.

AT&T Contract Killer

AT&T is implementing a new contract termination for those who are abusive to there customers service. I guess they see their customers whom are angry enough to complain about there services in an ill mannered way, would be punished by not being able to live out their contract. They just gave everyone that is fed up with AT&T's crap, a way out of their contract. I wonder how many people will call up AT&T just to curse at the poor operator just to get out of the contract free and clear. It's funny to see a business as big as AT&T start to drown because they'd rather loose customers then fix the problems they complain about.

AT&T spokesman Seth Boom says this “is about ensuring that our employees are treated with respect and not subjected to verbal abuse…and ensuring they’re able to help all of our customers. It’s also designed to be used in extreme cases and would only happen after multiple incidents and warnings." “We’re not saying customers can’t get upset. This is about truly extreme and abusive situations.”

What constitutes an "extreme and abusive situation" is too objective for those who actually want to stay with their provider. This is all actually a precaution for the changes they will be making to people's service plans in May. According to their spokes person, in an interview on Broadband Reports,“the company will be implementing a new 150GB monthly usage cap for all DSL customers and a new 250 GB cap on all U-Verse users starting on May 2.” They know this will piss people off so they are making sure they don't have to deal with the storm coming their way. Sprint and Verison are looking better and better, especially if you're an online gamer.

New Dirty Word According to Florida

Rep. Scott Randolph (D-FL) is in trouble with Florida House Republicans for saying a new dirty word on the House floor:
"At one point Randolph suggested that his wife "incorporate her uterus" to stop Republicans from pushing measures that would restrict abortions. Republicans, after all, wouldn't want to further regulate a Florida business.
Apparently the GOP leadership of the House didn't like the one-liner.
They told Democrats that Randolph is not to discuss body parts on the House floor.
"The point was that Republicans are always talking about deregulation and big government," Randolph said Thursday. "And I always say their philosophy is small government for the big guy and big government for the little guy. And so, if my wife's uterus was incorporated or my friend's bedroom was incorporated, maybe they (Republicans) would be talking about deregulating.
"It's not like I used slang," said Randolph, who actually got the line from his wife. He said Republicans voiced concern about young pages hearing the word uterus."
Talking about lady parts? EEEW COOTIES!!

Why Would Anyone Buy a Samsung Computer?

I recently found out something about Samsung laptops, or "notebooks," that kind of surprised me. Newer select Samsung computers have what most would consider malicious software preinstalled on them. Spyware, malware, and keyloggers are preexisting on new Samsung computers. Samsung admits to the keyloggers, but is looking into the other software, possibly installed on a chip or other hardware they don't make.

Samsung says they utilize the keylogger "Starlogger" to insure performance quality by monitoring "the performance of the machine and to find out how it is being used." Starlogger is a commercial-grade keylogger that not only loggs every key stoke including password-protected ones,  but sends full screen shots as well. The programe automatically runs as soon as the computer starts up, and randomly emails the data back to Samsung.

The keylogger is likely illegal, but I'm sure it's not to much for their handsomely paid lawyers to fix. Even if they do have to get rid of the software, by the time that happens they would have been prying into people's privet use of their computers for years and probably argue that there are to many on the market to remove them all, or whisper a recall that would only be heard by tech news followers and avid users that would have probably not have bought a Samsung in the first place. Imagen if a clever hacker found a way to redirect those emails to himself, or better yet hacked Samsung's data base… not good. The data existing at all is a security risk that doesn't need to be. So if you're in the market for a new computer, stay away from Samsung.

Make your own Web Server

Hey guys, I found an easy to fallow instruction guide on how to make a web server. It's pretty simple, well as simple as 300 pages can be. Even though it may not be to appealing fo casual use of the internet, it could make a more practical use of your old computers and electronics laying around. It could also be a cheeper alternative to buying one for your LAN needs. I was personally surprised that it could be so easily done. Remember to use something with a good amount of RAM for smoother results.
Here's the how to and the Ubuntu Download  / PDF download.

Play Everybody Edits

I'm newly addicted to this game I just found out about. It's super fun and super frustrating. If you don't get mad at the game and/or your self while playing it you are a god!

My favorite part about this game is that everyone that is playing at the moment is on your screen. Sometimes the crowed blocks your view and you can't see your self, so it's could be hard to judge your own movements at times. It's highly sensitive and quite tinny. I'm currently stuck on the last part of the first level :-P

Elizabeth Taylor: ‘James Dean Was Molested By a Minister’

As you may know Elizabeth Taylor died three days ago. several years ago during an interview she had this to say.

“I loved Jimmy. I’m going to tell you something, but it’s off the record until I die. OK? When Jimmy was 11 and his mother passed away, he began to be molested by his minister. I think that haunted him the rest of his life. In fact, I know it did. We talked about it a lot. During Giant we’d stay up nights and talk and talk, and that was one of the things he confessed to me.”

Was there ever a time men of the cloth were actually good people?

Exoskeletons!

I want super human abilities; who wouldn't want them?

Steve Jobs Turns Down Useful App

Tawkon is a startup that has been working on an app that measures the radiation your phone is admitting. It is available on the droid market but not Apple's app store. The CEO of the company emailed Steve Jobs n hopes of an app store admission, but the response was not one they were expecting to get. Here's the thread.
     Damn Steve, that's cold.

The World is Going to End… Again

In the year 2038 some computer software might fail. The Problem affects all software and systems that can store time as a signed 32-bit integer, and interpret this number of seconds since 00:00:00 UTC on thursday, 1 January, 1970.(It's Y2K for Unix) The further time that can be represented this way is 03:14:07 UTC on Tuesday, 19 January 2038. Times beyond this moment will "wrap around" and be stored internally as a negative number, which these systems will interpret as a date in 1901 rather than 2038. This will likely cause problems for users of these systems due to erroneous calculations.

While most programs will only be affected in or around 2038, programes that work with future dates will begin to run into problems sooner. Because most 32-bit Unix-like systems store and manipulate time in this format, it is usually called Unix time, and so the year 2038 problem is often referred to as the Unix Millennium Bug. However, non-Unix operating systems aren't safe either. Any OS that stores and manipulates time this way will be just as vulnerable.

Happy Birthday Twitter

Better late then never, but hey at least it's only one day off. Yesterday was Twitter's five year anniversary of the first tweet sent on March 21, 2006 by co-founder Jack Dorsey. This was back when Twitter was known as just "Twttr."

Twitter's small team of the time had been busy brainstorming and programming for eight days before the platform was ready for its first non-automated message, which read "Inviting coworkers," according to Dorsey.

Twitter now handles an average of 140 million tweets a day, and the Twitter staff is over 400 people, according to the Twitter Blog. I'm sure you can still take part in the celebration by tweeting #TwitterMemory.

STELLAService

STELLAService is a startup that measures rates and highlights, the quality of customer care of online businesses. They have raised $2M in beginning stage funding.

STELLAService was founded in 2009 to help online shoppers make better purchasing decisions at the same time help businesses grow with their collected customer service data and marketing services. The company claims to know thousands of e-retailers in its customer profile. Companies like GNC.com, Zappos.com and JR.com to name a few.

STELLAService pays for all products it purchases and relies on it's trained customer experience analyst staff to test the companies it evaluates. They say it will use the additional funds to step up development of it's customer service evaluation system. The company will also be working on making it's website more user friendly for online shoppers with new tools and features.

STELLAService seems to be a really helpful and reliable way to research the places you are thinking about spending your money. Definitely worth looking into.

Wyclef Got Shot

Wyclef Jean's publicist, Cindy Tanenbaum, reports that he was shot in the hand last night in Haiti. The shooting happened in the capital Port-au-Prince, of the Delmas section. Tanenbaum says the wound was "minor" and that "He was immediately taken to the hospital, treated for a minor graze to his hand and released. He is fine."

In August he was forced into hiding because of death threats, when Jean was considering to run for the President of Haiti. But the musician, who went to high school in Newark and whose family lives in Saddle River New Jersey, has since been back in the spotlight campaigning for his friend Michel Martelly, also known as "Sweet Mickey."

"Wyclef’s commitment to his native country and to his people is unparalleled," Tanenbaum said. "He is therefore undeterred by this incident." Local authorities seem to be avoiding the media.

Shogun 2: Total War

Found this trailer of Shogun 2. If you're a fan of the original Total War series this is defiantly something you've been waiting for. I on the other hand just found out about it and am thinking about picking it up. It looks great. What do you think?

Les Twins

Hello, I hope you all had a wonderful St.Patty's day, I know I did. As I refer to my hangover remedy I wanted to put something on that doesn't make me think to much, yet is still entertaining. I scrummaged through youtube's mess of a front page to find something I'm subscribed to that actually might be watchable. I finally landed on Yak Films, and watched a dance battle (Les Twins - France vs Lil'O & Tyger B - USA). I made my smoothie while the video loaded. After being amazed by the fluid motions these guys performed with such ease, I decided to look for some more Les Twins stuff. I found a video so awesome I had to share it. As I watch it I start to think the film was edited to make them move the way they do. Enjoy.

A new social network, or maybe more appropriately, anti-social network. Imagen if you will the bastard child of facebook and 4chan. Creator, 24-year-old Chris Poole talked about his newest venture into social networking. Yes, that's right, Moot him self is selling… eer I mean…  branching out. He and his colleagues are working on Canvasan anonymous facebook if you will.

More accurately, Christopher "Moot" Poole, the 4chan message board founder, has been quietly working on his site, canv.as, for some time now. He spoke up at this week's SXSW conference, where the Poole took the stage and proceeded to putdown his elders, specifically 26-year-old Mark Zuckerberg, about their failure to appreciate the benefits of online anonymity.

"Zuckerberg's totally wrong on anonymity being total cowardice. Anonymity is authenticity. It allows you to share in a completely unvarnished, raw way," Poole said, adding that the internet allows people to "reinvent themselves" as if they were moving home or starting a new job. "The cost of failure is really high when you're contributing as yourself," he said.

Chris Poole became somewhat infamous when he was named the World's Most Influential Person in a 2009 online survey by Time magazine. Of course, that survey was hacked by his pals at 4chan, which is also widely believed to be the source of the Anonymous campaigns that has bedeviled everyone from the Church of Scientology, to the government of Egypt, and even identifying the cat bin lady. At least, the two groups appear to draw from the same pool of digital prankster-vigilantes.

Canvas is in closed beta at the moment, so it's impossible to see how much it is or isn't like the 4chan. Though Business Insider offers a preview of the site. From the description, ir seems allot like facebook but more image oriented. The idea is accommodate all users of his boards and not just one kind of people.

Group Messaging Bests

I'm sure by now you've heard of at least one of the many group messaging startups looking to help multiple people keep in touch with each other. There has been allot talk about how there will likely be some of the breakout starts of SXSW. More then a few of these companies do far more than just send texts to multiple people; some of them offer location sharing, conference calls, and other features. Here are some of the best ones and their features to help you choose which is best for you.

Groupme

Groupme is a group texting and conference calling app that started at the 2010 TechCrunch Disrupt Hackathon. It has already received over $11 million in funding. Users can set up a unique phone number and share it with his/her group. Groups can fit up to 25 people to share conversations. Users can share photos with the group online, or through Android or iPhone Apps. currently, Groupme users send about a million text messages and make a thousands conference calls everyday.

It is possible to create short-term groups that expire after a certain amount of time if the group is created online, with the iPhone App, or with Google Voice. In case users decide they’d rather have a long-term group in the middle of a short-term group, Groupme will send the creator a notice one hour before the group is set to expire, and the user can extend the time limit. However, Groupme says that they haven’t experienced heavy usage of their short-term groups.

Groupme can operate on any cell phone capable of sending and receiving text messages, and the service is free, though the text messaging rates of a user’s cell phone carrier do apply. Users can use #commands to manage the group and the members in it. (For example, #mute will stop messages from the group, and sending #help prompts a message that reminds you of other basic commands). There are no restrictions on the number of groups that a user can be a part of.

In preparation for SXSW, Groupme revamped their apps for iPhone and Android, providing users with the option of sending their messages through Push Notifications instead of SMS, saving them the costs of sending text messages (this also sends Groupme the cost of routing the messages). For these users with Android or iPhone apps, all of their group chats appear within the app itself rather than their SMS apps. Members of a group can also find each other’s locations on a map — a new feature for Groupme that Beluga and Fast Society already have. Users can also check into Foursquare locations directly from the Groupme app. Their more recent update, 2.1 More thing, further improves their iPhone and Android apps, allowing users to advertise their groups on Facebook or Twitter, where friends can request to join. And if one creates an SXSW group, special locations will show up on the map view.

Fast Society

Fast Society started in August, 2009, and has so far raised $275 thousand in funding. Their catchphrase is “built to party,” and the service is different from Groupme in that it is focused mainly on short-term teams that last from 3 hours up to 3 days. The idea is to allow groups of up to friends plan and connect with each other for a fun night out. Although Fast Society used to keep the teams small (up to 6 people), in their updated version, users can create 5 teams of up to 25 people in each team, and can also make permanent teams won’t disperse after a given time limit.

Teams on Fast Society can be created online or with an iPhone app, but every US cell phone that is enabled with texting can use the service through SMS (although carrier rates will apply). Members can text, call, and share their locations on a map.

Fast Society has also made some major updates in time for SXSW. In the new version of Fast Society, the app is capable of in-app messaging (similar to Groupme’s earlier update) that cuts the cost of using SMS. Also like Groupme’s 2.1 release, users can make now a public invite on their Facebook or Twitter, and accept or decline requests to join the group. Other features the new version allows include photo sharing, and an improved location sharing function that lets members in a team show their friends where they are and where they plan to go. “Shout Out” is unique to Fast Society, and is essentially a way of sending voice messages to the team, while “Rally” is a quick way of inviting everyone in an existing team to join a new team for a new event.

Also, Fast Society provides members with a way of looking back in time on their past endeavors with “past team view.” This allows users to capture the experiences they’ve shared with their friends and “relive” them if they so choose.

Although they now have permanent groups, Fast Society concentrates on encouraging short-term teams that are put together for a specific outing or “night out,” and targets teens and young adults more than the general population.

Beluga

Beluga has focused mainly on their iPhone and Android apps from the start, rather than building up from SMS, like Groupme did. Beluga was recently acquired by Facebook from three ex-Google employes, and now has the might of the social network behemoth behind them (assuming it doesn’t get shut down).

Beluga’s apps uses Push Notifications as a main means of communication, with SMS as a fallback, and users can enable or disable the alerts they get from the apps.

Since being acquired by Facebook, Beluga has updated their app in time for SXSW, and has rolled out a sign-on process that goes through Facebook. Users can also silence specific pods (or all of them) for one hour or until 8 am. The app also has an updated, more Facebook-esque navigation system that has tabs for Pods, People, and News along the top of the app for Android, and along the bottom for iPhones.

Yobongo

Yobongo is an altogether different type of “group messaging” service. Whereas the others provide a way to stay in touch with friends you already have, Yobongo hopes to spark new friendships between people in the area.

When a user starts using the Yobongo app, they’re automatically launched into a conversation with ten other people in the same geographical area. By keeping the groups small and filled with people already in close proximity, Yobongo hopes to start friendships between people who wouldn’t have met each other otherwise. Users are encouraged to use their real names, enhancing the “real person” aspect of the app (as opposed to some stranger that hides behind a computer screen).

Over time, the app automatically starts putting people into the same group, giving them the opportunity to develop connections and friends.

Yobongo is a fairly new service, having just launched for the public last week, just in time for SXSW, and have reportedly had far more downloads than they’d anticipated. However, they are still working on improving their service; multitasking on the iPhone is still an issue — when a user exits the application, they are disconnected from the service and may be reassigned to a new group once they turn the app back on.

Zaarly App

"Zaarly is a proximity based, real-time buyer powered market. Buyers make an offer for an immediate need and sellers cash in on an infinite marketplace for items and services they never knew were for sale."

As a buyer you can make offers for a service you want, anything you can think of (only if it is legal of course). What the service is how much you're willing to pay, and depending on the service, where you are. You can post a request to have your clothes cleaned for you, have a soda delivered to you while you're in the movies and you don't want to miss any of it, or set up a party at a dinning hall. Instead of hiring an over price assistent you can set your own price and find people willing to do the job.

If you want you can sell your services as well. If you were to be going grocery shopping one day and see that someone that lives close by would like some milk brought to them why not pick up some extra cash for doing something you pretty much already are. You could even make a living from simply helping out others that are otherwise to busy, or physically disabled who can't do things for them selves.

Zaarly has some pretty good features. It uses the location feature of your phone to determine proximity of your phone to determine proximity of other the users. You can talk to the person you've accepted via an anonymous phone number (A Twilio powered service). Later you'll be able to anonymously text back and forth also. Soon both sides of the transaction will be able to rate the other person.

Cofounder Bo Fishback says he came up with the idea on an airplane. He is tall and has trouble in most economy class seats. When he flies he would often ask people in the exit row if they'll take his seat for $50. "100% of the time the person says yes, or just changes without the payment." Zaarly is a better way to do these type of things, he says.

Look for it to launch at SXSW in a few days. Until then, sign up for early notification at Zaarly.

@Charliesheen

Public fascination with 45-year-old actor has skyrocketed since he began a media bender following hif fallout with Two and a half Men producer Chuck Lorre and his introduction of hs 24-year-old goddesses, girlfriends Rachel Oberlin and Natalie Kenly.

It seems everywhere you look these days there's Charlie Sheen. Whether it's on the news talking about winning, or how his kids got taken away, or it's on the internet possibly on a youtube video titled DUH winning I got tiger blood remix. The the one place where he's seen by millions everyday is Twitter.  @CharlieSheen has become a twitter god. Duh, winning.

@CharlieSheen, with just over 2.4 million followers at the moment, broke a couple world records on Twitter getting there. First he broke the record for the fastest to 1 million followers in just under 24 hours. Then he got the most replies in just one tweet. 2.2 million people at 95,333 clicks an hour. Here's the tweet.

The tweet was about an internship application. Apparently the Twitter guru he hired wasn't enough. His social media networking has become something of a startup corporation and now he needs interns. He's looking for some help with his social media project for just a short time of 8 weeks. It's a full time paid offer for a summer job. Doesn't sound to bad to me seeing as how Charlie Sheen would probably be surrounded by playboy bunnies and the best liquore and cigars money can by. I for one wouldn't mind winning for 8 weeks. Apply here.

New Chrome

Three weeks ago Google came out with the beta version of Chrome 10. Today, the company launched a stable release of the upgrade desktop browser solution. It comes with a speed boost that corresponds to a 66% improvement in JavaScript performance on the V8 benchmark suite.

You can now synch settings, passwords, and bookmarks to any computer across the internet. So no matter where you sit down at a computer once you get the settings link it's just like home.

Appia-Powered Mobile App Store

Opera has launched a web-based mobile app store today. Opera Mobile Store will feature Speed Dial Link in the Opera Mini and Opera Mobile browsers. It is powered by Appia which recently shifted its business modle to providing white label mobile app stores for providers. For now, Opera will offer both free and paid application for a variety of mobile platforms and devices, including Java, Symbian, Blackberry, and Android.

Opera says that in it's pre-launch state, the Opera Mobile Store attracted more then 15 million users in February from 200 countries, achieving more than 700,000 downloads per day. clearly this is a big win for Appia, which now powers app stores for world's top five handset manufacturers as well as Opera.

Phantogram

I saw this band perform with Questlove on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and fell in love. Late Night with Jimmy Fallon usually has lesser known bands on that restore my faith in modern music, but this group was so good I became a fan instantly.

Why you shouldn't get a iPad2

The iPod 2 has been announced and as I was looking into it I found this list of 11 reasons NOT to buy an iPad 2 (including 6 that haven't changed from the iPad 1). This was written back when there was still allot of speculation and hearsay but still good reasons.

here is the list in short:

  1. The iPod 2 is only a precursor to the finished product. It isn't all it can be so you might want to wait for a newer version to come out next year.
  2. Steve Jobs is a big reason why Apple products are the way they are. It's because of his obsessive attention to detail their products have been as good as they are. With Steve on medical leave it's possible the new gen. iPad isn't getting as much love as products did in the past.
  3. There is no SD slot. With no removable storage it doesn't have much advantage over the original iPad.
  4. There isn't much difference between the new and the old. It's just a little faster with more RAM, it's thinner and has a front mounted camera, but besides that it's essentially the same product.
  5. Android competition is on the horizon and you might want a more open experience, and we all know how Apple likes to keep everything under lock and key.
  6. Still no USB port.
  7. Still have to use itunes.
  8. Still no way to wirelessly synch bookmarks.
  9. Still cheeper alternatives.
  10. Still only approved software is compatible.
  11. Still can't be used as a stand alone computer.
So basically the iPod is still a subpar Ebook reader and a really cool Angry birds console. If you don't already have one the iPod 2 isn't a bad start, but if you don't need it just wait. There's no reason you shouldn't have the best.

Hangover Cure!

I drank a little to much last night so I thought I'd share the cure to this dehydration and vitamin depletion everyone calls a hangover.

here's what you'll need:
  • 1000 milligrams vitamin C
  • one B complex vitamin
  • 600 milligrames N-acetyl-cysteine or "NAC"
  • 400 milligrams Ibuprofen
  • one over-ripe banana
  • 5-6 frozen strawberries
  • 1/4 cup wild blueberries
  • 1/4 cup frozen or fresh pineapple
  • about 1 1/2 cups cold vanilla soy milk
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • a dash of salt
  • a dash of cayenne
  • about 100 ounces clear, filtered water
I like to take some acidophilus before the smoothie and drink a bottle of Gatorade some time after the smoothy, then move on to the water.

Twendr.com

Addicted to Twitter? Ever want to see the top trends from around the world? If the answer is yes then this is for you. Twender is an easy to read list of the top ten Twitter trends in 20 countries and one worldwide top ten too. Some of these countries have the option to see the top ten of their major cities as well. You can easily see the same trends in different countries by hovering over the # of your choice. For example when I hover over #tigerblood, which is second on the worldwide list, all of the #tigerblood's get highlighted and I can easily see that it's not top ten in Canada but second in the United States and United Kingdom. It refreshes about every 250 seconds, which is just about enough time to go through the lists. For a particular place, you can also see how trending topics have changed or have been growing by looking at the location's Last Hour. You can read more about it on their blog here.

Fetus Testifies in Court

A 9week old fetus is being called as an unconventional legislative witness at a hearing in Ohio debating a proposed bill that would make abortion illegal as soon as a fetus' heartbeat can be detected. The Faith2Action group, proponents of the bill, apparently aims to use proof of the unborn child's beating heart from a projected ultrasound to convince lawmakers that the "Heartbeat Bill" is constitutional.

Mike Gonidakis, executive director of the "Ohio Right to Life" stated that, "despite noble aspirations, there is no scenario under which the heartbeat legislation will be upheld by any court and therefore no lives will be saved by passage of this bill." Ohio's Right to life group as well as other pro-life advocates feel the same way, because it would make the legal deadline for abortions before a women might know she's pregnant, as the first heartbeat usually occurs 18 days after conception.

The bill most likely won't pass but that hasn't stopped Faith2Action from going all out with this fetus testimony. Daily Intel's Nitasha Tiku says that Faith2Action's affected by the Heartbeat Bill, "If that's the case, aren't there sentient beings, like, say, the people that will have to raise it for the next eighteen years that could use actual words to testify?" she asked. Alex Balk as the Awl simply comments that "the witness will be the smartest thing in the room." I lol'd.

OpenEmbedded

The Yocto Project, “An open source collaboration project that provides templates, tools and methods to help you create custom Linux-based systems for embedded products regardless of the hardware architecture” by a working group of the Linux Foundation. This probably something allot of you have never heard of. The Yocto Project has been compatible with OpenEmbedded, “the build framework for embedded Linux,” and recently announced that Yocto is aligning more closely with OpenEmbedded, including shared governance.
The Linux Foundation will continue to provide support and guidance to the newly merged efforts, and the recent announcement comes with an impressive list of companies committed to the technology. It’s no surprise that established players in the embedded Linux world like MontaVista Software, Texas Instruments and Intel are involved. But to see companies like Dell and LSI on the list is interesting, and says a lot about the health and success of Linux in embedded devices.

www.3d4medical.com

Imei Hsu wrote about this educational app for medical clinicians, students, and people that simply just think human biology is cool. With apps for an array of organs and body parts users can manipulate the viewing angle of cross-sections in 3D. Doctors could use it to show exactly what's wrong with the patients, or teachers can use it to teach. The possibilities are endless. Check it out. It's pretty cool.

Blip.fm

Hi there. Ever want to find new music but can't think of how? Check out Blip.fm. It is a social network based around music. It allows you to be a DJ of sorts. It's kind of like Twitter for music, but instead of "tweets" you have "blips."

You can lurk the resent blip feed for the newest blimps of the moment, or you can upload, link to, or search for music you might like and be a DJ your self. There's a rating system, so you can see how liked other DJ's are and make an informed decision on whether or not to fallow… eerr I mean listen to them. You can play, pause, and skip tracks straight from the front page. It's quite convenient.

I found it on NewEgg.com and at the time it was $599.99+tax so I jumped on it. For that price I even got the two year extended warranty wich brought the total to $650+tax. The tax pissed me off a bit cause it was about another $50, but still nearly $700 for this TV is pretty good. Just a day later and the price on the site went up to $900. I've been to stores and search until I couldn't stand searching any longer and couldn't even find a better TV let alone one for that price. Maybe I wasn't looking in the right places but for now I feel I was. Do you think it was a good buy? What TV's do you think would be better?

How many moons does Earth have?

I was watching Qi clips on youtube on the BBC channel and as usual I was laughing and learning at the same time, and in the midst of it all a question came up that was so easy I was confused by it. How many moons does Earth have? Someone answered one, as expected, but to my surprise was told he was wrong! Stephen Fry explained that Earth has a second moon called Cruithne that is 3 miles wide and takes 700 years to orbit the earth. I got suspicious and did a little research of my own.

Earth has 1 moon and 2 co-orbital satellites. As you're probably aware, Earth has 1 moon, but did you know there are 2 additional asteroids locked into co-orbital orbits with Earth? They are called 3753 Cruithne and 2002 AA29.

3753 Cruithne is 5 km across, and sometimes called Earth's second moon although it clearly orbits the sun more then the Earth. It doesn't actually orbit the Earth, but has a synchronized orbit. It has an orbit that makes it look like it's following the Earth in orbit, but it's actually following the it's own, distinct path around the Sun. It looks to me that it takes 385 years to complete it's orbit and not the said 700. Not only is it not a moon it's not Earth's. Steven Fry lied to me!

If anything 2002 AA29 is earth's second moon, although it is to small to be a moon. It is only 60 meters across, and makes a horseshoe orbit around the Earth that brings it close to the planet every 95 years. In about 600 years, it will apear to circle Earth in a quasi-satellite orbit. It is constantly chasing us and might hit again! That's right I said again. Some time around 4.5 billion years ago it helped create the moon.

I also came across this in my search: Impact Risk
I couldn't make much sense of it but it looks like we might get hit by an asteroid.

EtherPad and Social Survival

Hi, I'm new to this whole blog thing so if things seem a bit off or immature please be patient, for I'm still learning. I will be posting a blog as frequently as my life allows. These posts will be bassed on what ever it is I'm doing at that moment in time. Hopefully I post some helpful info for you, or just plane entertaining. Thanks for checking out my blog.

I would like to make my first blog post about my curent find EtherPad." EtherPad is the first web-based word processor that allows people to work together in really real-time." EtherPad is open source and can be monipulated to anything the user wants it to be. For example the Anonymous Revolution Survival GuideEtherPad was developed for more convectional things like meeting notes, drafting sessions, education, team programming, ect. This could be a very powerful thing when used correctly though. Creating a hive mind focused on one thing such as over throwing an oppressive government is about as powerful as it can get.
